Made from noble Portuguese grape varieties, chosen from the best vineyard sites in the Dao region. The wine is fermented in new Portuguese oak casks, from which it derives its complex aroma and dry, nutty flavour. Delicious as an aperitif, or with fish and seafood dishes.
Produced in the modern style, Duque de Viseu is much more fruity than most traditional Dao wines. The wine is matured for 12 months in new French oak and has a ripe, black fruit flavour with a smoky, slightly liquorice character on the palate. (6 x 75 cl)
The predominant grape in white Dao is called Encruzado, and produces a clean, dry, lemony sort of flavour which develops slightly nutty characters with age. The wine is unoaked, but has a typical rich Portuguese flavour which would match most fish dishes. (12 x 75 cl)
The Encruzado grape produces wines with excellent body and acidity with a unique ageing potential. Medium straw in colour, the wine has a sophisticated and subtle aroma with notes of flowers, resin and tropical fruits. The finish is long, delicate and exquisite. (6 x 75 cl)
Classic style Dao: ruby red, with a soft stewed fruit nose and a clean dry finish with a note of almonds. Predominant grapes are Touriga Nacional and Alfrocheiro. Grao Vasco is the best-known wine from Dao, now produced in Sogrape's winery at Quinta dos Carvalhais. (12 x 75 cl)
Made from specially selected grapes of premium quality set aside for extended oak maturation and bottle-ageing. The wine has a firm, fruity aroma (6 x 75 cl)
Traditional style red from one of Portugal’s most famous wine regions. The wine is aged in oak followed by bottle ageing for 3 years, producing a firm dry cedary range of flavours combined with the fresh, red fruit flavours typical of the Dão region. (6 x 75 cl)
Produced only in exceptional years, this is the flagship wine of Quinta dos Carvalhais. A wine of great complexity and structure, with the floral aromas and elegant tannins of Touriga Nacional; the fruit and vigour of Tinta Roriz and the spiciness and lively acidity of Alfrocheiro Preto. (3 x 75 cl)
A deep garnet colour with great aromatic intensity and complexity. On the palate the wine is beautifully balanced with powerful tannins and a long and elegant finish. Excellent with red meat, game and cheese. (6 x 75 cl)
