The Pinot Gris, previously called Tokay d'Alsace, is one of the oldest Alsace grapes. The varietal is characterised by buttery, smoky aromas and powerfully intense flavours. A fruity wine offering a subtle, complex bouquet with honey aromas. Luscious fruit flavours accented with cream, vanilla and almond. Good natural acidity. The Pinot Gris, previously called Tokay d'Alsace, then Tokay Pinot Gris, is not related to the Hungarian Tokaji, which comes from the Furmint vine. It is actually a pinot of Burgundian origin known in Alsace since the 17th century. The general name Pinot Gris is the designated term from now until 2007.The Pinot Gris is an aromatic wine, sometimes velvety and vigorous, both fresh and rich, it is has good acidity and ages admirably. The Pinot Blanc, a grape which originated in Northern Italy, dates back to the 16th century. Although very old, it has become popular only in the last few years. At Domaines Schlumberger, two types of Pinot Blanc are used . The Pinot d'Alsace gives the wine its structure and acidity, while the Pinot Auxerrois provides the delicate fruit.
