There is more to the great world of wine than the confinement of monosyllabilic varietal bottlings. Blending the right grapes together creates advantages analogous with the crafting of wonderful food in an exploratory kitchen. The excitement of the Hannibal blend is an indulgence, it's about the different grapes painting diverse taste colours. It's these taste colours which allow for Hannibal to be different and individually unique. Once again blended from predominantly Italian varieties, the wine presents the following composition: Sangiovese 43 %, Pinot noir 23 %, Nebbiolo 12 %, Syrah 11 %, Mouvedre 6 %, Barbera 5 %. These different varieties were all matured in small French oak barrels for 18 months. To soften and sculpt the tannins a white of egg fining was performed prior to bottling. The wine has a concentrated, dark fruit nose with an austere, gentle palate weight. The flavours are opulent with evident tannins. Long and harmonious (12 x 75 cl)
Grape Varieties: 39% Riesling, 33% Viognier, 17% Sauvignon Blanc and 11% Chenin Blanc. Tasting note: Deliciously fragrant with an inviting easy drinking style. Rich on the palate with a creamy elegance followed by hints of green apple and melon. The finish is firm which makes the wine seem almost dry despite some natural residual grape sugar. (12 x 75 cl)
Pinot Noir is sometimes said to be feminine, alluring and capricious but most of all it is that tantalizing desire to achieve richness with this grape which forces perseverance and ultimately satisfies the Holy Grail of winemaking. The finest vineyards are often located in marginal climatic conditions. While the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley is generally perceived as a mild to warm area it is subject to unpredictable weather patterns. Profound, rich and multi dimensional. Fruity cassis nose, great colour, good grip with a full-ish body and good tannins leading to an elegant but longish finish. Pinot noir is the most food flexible varietal. Its richness comes from a multitude of layers of flavour. Enjoy with fish, poultry, game birds and red meat dishes. (6 x 75 cl)
