A beautiful brilliant crimson colour, with a complexity of aromas on the nose including blackberry and Morello cherry, hints of oak and spice. Well-balanced, supple, round and succulent with lively, yet mellow tannins. Owned by Charles de Montesquieu in the 18th century, Chateau Saint Ahon was destroyed during the French Revolution and then rebuilt under the 1st Empire. Restored in 1875 in the pure Louis XIII style, it remains unchanged today. It is one of the last remaining wine estates of Blanquefort, boasting 40 hectares in total, 30 of which are vineyards and situated only 25 minutes from the centre of Bordeaux. (6 x 75 cl)
A 31-hectare estate divided into different parcels with vineyards mainly on a mixture of gravels and flint soils. With the vines being fairly youthful high-density planting is necessary . The blend is Cabernet Sauvignon 60%, Merlot 28%, Cabernet Franc 10% and Petit Verdot 2%. Respect for nature includes the use of manures made from animal and vegetable material. The harvest is manual with a table de tri to sort the grapes. Once in the winery the grapes undergo a long fermentation of 18-21 days in stainless steel and cement vats. The wine is then aged in barriques for twelve to fifteen months and fined with egg white before bottling. Deep ruby wine showing some development at the rim. Classy nose of soft autumn fruits, damsons and blackcurrants with a hint of sweet spice. Dry and full-bodied with firm tannic structure and good weight of ripe fruit with hints of cassis. A lingering finish gives the wine character and definition. (6 x 75 cl)
La Tour Carnet is a 4 eme class growth incorporating 125 ha estate, where the vineyards cover approximately 48 ha, with the vines being an average of 24 years old. The property is made up of 50% Cabernet sauvignon, 39% Merlot and 11% Cabernet Franc. The harvest is picked manually and transported in small 25 to 30 kg cages, the grapes are then sorted by hand. Fermentation lasts 8 to 9 days and the maceration lasts aproximately 25 to 30 days. Regular reassemblies ensure a permanent contact between the skin and the grape juice. Punctuated by frequent rackings, ageing lasts around 18 months, in barrels 50% new each vintage. The dense purple robe reveals a nose of dark red fuits, coffee and licorice. Medium body with fresh tannins and a long finish. Available in the original wooden case.
Hints of liquorice, chocolate and oak show in the aroma but this tasty claret is much more supple, with ripe blackcurrant fruit and spicy notes on the distinguished flavour. It also has a pleasant crunchy fruitiness with an elegance in the glass. (24 x 37.5 cl)
