Description:
Umani Ronchi own 110 hectars in the Verdicchio Classico area, 60 hectars in the Rosso Conero, and 30 in Abruzzi. Although Umani Ronchi are leading exponent of two native wines of the Marches - Verdicchio and Rosso Conero - wines from foreign grape varieties, notably Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, have resulted in wines that have achieved international acclaim. The unique and recognizable style of the wines comes from the Marche region, framed by glorious hills that meet the waters of the Adriatic Sea. Plenio is produced from the best grapes of the Villa Bianchi vineyard, placed in Moie di Maiolati, in the heart of the Verdicchio Classico production area. The vineyard, planted in 1989, extends for 1.5 hectars. Great care is involved during the harvest when the grapes are hand-picked, collected in small baskets, and softly pressed. The must is kept in refrigerated vats to enable the solid matter to precipitate. 30% of the must ferments in new barriques of Allier and Tronçais and is assembled in the month of March with the rest of the wine, that fermented in stainless steel at controlled temperature. Plenio is the Riserva that completes the Umani Ronchi range of Verdicchio wines. The new category Riserva is applied to Verdicchio wines that age at least 24 months, of which 6 months must be bottle refinement. Pale straw yellow coloured wine with golden reflections and round, soft, fresh aromas, and as well as vanilla and ripe fruits. This 100% Verdicchio has a velvety, soft, rich and harmonic flavour with the typical bitter aftertaste.
