Le Roc des Anges is an estate of approximately 22 hectares in the village of Montner in the Agly valley , on the north exposed side of Forca Real mountain. The Segna de Cor comprises 50% Grenache, 30% Carignan and 20% Syrah. The relation between the Grenache and the terroir of Roc des Anges gives fruity and fleshy grapes. To balance this generosity, they are blended with old Carignan and Syrah giving firm structure and dark colour and resulting in a tender and fruity wine sustained by a real texture of tannins. This wine is a blend of 60% Syrah and 40% Grenache is showing a deep brick red colour with purple hues and is brimming with the spicy varietal aromas of the Syrah on the nose. The palate is round, warm and rich with lifted cherry and strawberry fruit flavours complemented by soft tannins with pepper and paprika overtones. The fruit for this wine comes from carefully selected parcels of grapes in the Cote de Roussillon region in the extreme south of the Languedoc in Southern France. Grown on terraced old bush vine vineyards, on chalky 'Garrigue' soils, the vines are described by the locals as 'sleeping in the shade of the Pyrenees with their feet dangling in the Mediterranean'. The hand picked fruit is lightly crushed and destemmed, this enables a percentage of berries to remain unbroken and carry out some carbonic maceration in the fermentation, resulting in a more aromatic wine.The fermenting juice is pumped through its skins 4 to 6 times a day and then, post fermentation, the wine is left on its skins for 20 days prior to pressing providing maximum extraction of colour and structure. A Syrah and Grenache dominated wine that has been matured in new oak that still dominates on the palate. This chateau has excellent prospects for the future. (6 x 75 cl)
