A nose packed with white flowers, honey and pear, in the mouth the attack is dry and rich with a good citrus finish. Well suited to good quality seafood! The wines of the Courbis estate are some of the most compelling examples of St-Joseph and Cornas being made today. The Courbis brothers have combined their long family experience with a modern style and this has earned them international recognition. Robert Parker sums it up in his book on Rhone wines: 'Courbis is a name to watch in the Northern Rhone.' Courbis wines regularly receive rave reviews in Wine Spectator, International Wine Cellar, The Wine Advocate and Revue du Vin de France. (6 x 75 cl)
Outstanding St Joseph, elegant yet concentrated. Black raspberry and cassis flavours with smoky mineral edges. Excellent balance including good acidity levels. Pure and rich. (12 x 75 cl)
It has taken Yves Cuilleron 10 years to establish himself as one of the most dynamic young winegrowers in the Northern Rhone. His bold wines move and impress aficionados by their deep combination of terroir and style, a style which combines concentration and elegance, the two words which best define a great wine. This wine is made with Syrah grapes and the old vines used are between 20 and 40 years old. The grapes come from a selection of the best vines on terraces and hillsides where the soils are sandy granite and not very deep, while neither insecticides nor acaricides are used. After the manual harvest the grapes are picked out, crushed and partially picked off from the bunch. Next, the wine is put into oak barrels and malolactic fermantation occurs and finally the wine is aged in oak for 18 months. Dark ruby coloured wine with an intensely perfumed nose of redcurrant, licorice, and fresh violet. Serious, concentrated and deep, with strong, inky berry and cherry flavours that build and expand on the palate combine well with powerful tannins and strong finish.

The Condrieu appellation is only 100 hectares in total of which Yves owns 8. This makes him a major player in an appellation which has 40 vineyard owners and in which only 20 producers make their own wine. In recent years as part of the revival of interest in Rhone Valley wines, a group of mostly young growers, all working with consultant oenologist Jean Luc Colombo, have formed a group called Rhone Vignobles.
