The history of winemaking in Madiran goes back to Gallo-Roman times. They have had the same soil for a period of 40,000 years! Alain Brumont started winemaking over twenty years ago with his father. Today he owns 10% of the total vineyards in Madiran. Alain Brumont took up the challenge of placing Madiran on the map of renowned wines. His defence of the Tannat grape is passionate while the rest of the world seems content with just a few well-known grape varieties. With tenacity, he took the best terroir of the region for the Tannat grape, which makes up the majority if not 100% of his blends. The excellence that Alain Brumont has achieved with his wines has been the result of observation, reflection and, ultimately for all great wines, a sacrifice of high yields. His yield is limited to between 30 and 40 hectolitres per hectare - well below the 60 hectolitres threshold. Alain Brumont is much lauded in the press and trade as having invented the noble Madiran and bringing out the full potential of the Tannat grape. Older vintages are currently fetching very high prices at auction. His wines are purely made, remarkably rich, and so complex and promising that they cannot be ignored.
Part of Brumont's late-harvested wine selection, 'Vendemiaire' , Brumont has provided a real challenge to Jurancon and given the World of sweet wines a remarkably new balance and flavour. Available in 50 cl Bottles. Alain Brumont is a driven man, indeed no wine-grower in France sets about his work with a greater and more restless ambition than this fierce over-achiever. Brumont is a blend of the conventional and the innovative. His inspiration for his wines was Bordeaux; he returned from that more northerly region to Madiran in 1979, with a new determination to make high quality wines. Available in 50cl Bottles. (6 x 50 cl)
Winemaker Alain Brumont has produced an unusual wine made from the Tannat grape variety. Baked fruit flavours on the nose with spice and smoky overtones. A wonderful, concentrated wine, very difficult to find in this country. (6 x 75 cl)
