The wines can be quite tannic in their youth, but Troplong always seems to balance that with precocious, rich young fruits (the hallmark of Monsieur Rolland) and a sublime balance that elevates the wines above the crowd. The harvest is picked entirely by hand and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats and thereafter undergo malolactic fermentation in oak barrel of which 70% are new oak and 30% are one-year old. Here they mature for 12 to 24 months depending upon the vintage, fined with egg-whites and finally bottled. A blend of Merlot 90% with a little Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc this is a wine to savour.
