Description:
This Muscadet Sur Lie is light, greenish yellow in colour, with a clean, fresh nose, with perfumes of white peaches and grapefruit, tending more towards mineral tones than tropical fruit. On the palate it has good depth, and a ripeness of fruit lacking in many Muscadets. This is counterbalanced by a lemony, slightly spritzy freshness on the fresh finish. The vineyards are situated on the hills overlooking the Grandlieu lake, facing southwest. The proximity to the lake ensures a more moderate climate, which in turn leads to earlier ripening and fuller wines. The 25-30 year old vines are managed raisoneé, with cover crops and minimal intervention. Soils here are thin and sandy, with clay and schistous areas. Domaine les Hautes Noelles has been owned by Serge Batard’s family since the 1930s. The domaine now has 24 hectares of vineyard located in the commune of Port St Père and St Léger les Vignes, 15 kilometres southwest of the city of Nantes. Serge Batard’s property includes 7 hectares of the ‘Côtes de Grandlieu’ appellation.
