Yalumba HAND PICKED Shiraz Viognier Barossa Valley South Australia
The concept of blending Shiraz and Viognier is not new. It is derived from the great French wine region of Northern Rhone, in particular, the Cote Rotie area. Cote Rotie has often been described as one of France's finest and most perfumed red wines. W I N E S T Y L E Yalumba Hand Picked Shiraz + Viognier 1999 is deep cherry red in colour with purple hues. Lifted floral aromatics surround ripe fleshy plums, chocolate and dried fruits. On the palate, fine tannins support the intense flavours of ripe cherries, liquorice, anise and violets. This wine can be enjoyed now, but will benefit from medium term cellaring. The addition of Viognier to Shiraz intensifies the colour, adds an extra dimension and a wonderful fragrance to the bouquet, and brings softness to the rich and powerful Barossa Shiraz. This rare blend from Yalumba of 87% Shiraz and 13% Viognier is 100% Barossa, with the majority of the fruit sourced from the Eden Valley. (6 x 75 cl)
