The Ramos-Pinto 30-Year old Tawny is amber colored with orange and garnet tones. The delicate green highlights of the meniscus are characteristic of old cask-aged wines, and illustrate the quality and advanced age of this fine port. This complex, perfectly balanced port shows rich aromas of dried fruit and vanilla. Agitate the glass and spice aromas of cinnamon and cocoa are liberated. In the mouth, the attack is fresh, fine and delicate. Ripe, dried fruit softly merges with almond and hazelnut, culminating in vanilla flavors which linger gracefully on the palate. Made from Ramos-Pinto's estate vineyards in the best production zones of the Delimited Douro Region, the 30-Year Tawny is a blend of wines that have been aging in oak for an average of three decades in the winery's cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia. (6 x 75 cl)
The Ramos-Pinto Superior Tawny is a deep brick-red color gained from its extended sojourn in oak. Intense fruit aromas greet the nose, with full secondary aromas evident. The first impression is light and hot, evolving into a rich smoothness gained from wood aging. Ready to drink upon release, this is a well-matured port, fruity, with a fine flavored, dry finish. (6 x 75 cl)
From one of the 4 estates owned by Ramos Pinto who are renowned for their tawny ports comes this rich and candied yet deliciously fresh Port with some toasty complexity. A 10 year Tawny that is an orange, red, tawny colour with ruby nuances, though it is showing clearly the action of time. The fruit aromas of orange, apricot, plum, are enhanced by the wood aromas of vanilla and old Port cask, while the smooth and full-bodied palate is both fresh and smooth giving way to a light acid and woody note. In 1974, Jose Antonio Ramos Pinto Rosas, the then Chairman of Casa Ramos Pinto, was persistently looking for an quinta on fairly flat land that would allow for mechanisation, as already at that time the lack of and the high cost of labour was being felt in the Douro. Having studied military maps, he found and bought the Quinta de Santa Maria, re-christened as Quinta de Ervamoira, which would become a model quinta in the whole of the Douro region. Two years later, with the help of his nephew Joao Nicolau de Almeida, Jose Rosas embarked on the project to study and select the five best varieties and to work only on the material selected, taking into account not only Port Wine but also Still Wine. This joint work made Ervamoira a pilot project, the first Quinta in the Douro to be planted vertically and by fields. The Quinta de Ervamoira is located in the Douro region, sub-region of the Upper Douro, in the parish of Muxagata, Vila Nova de Foz Caa. With a total surface area of 200 hectares and with altitudes which vary between 110 and 340 metres, this quinta has 150 ha of vines with approximately 450 000 vine stalks planted, of an average age of 15 years old. In Ervamoira, the vertical form of planting has been exclusively used. Only 10% of the varieties produced there are white. Of the remaining 90%, 16% belong to the Tinta Barroca variety, 23% to Touriga Nacional, 13% to Touriga Francesa, 13% to Tinta Roriz, 10% to Tinta da Barca and a further 15% are a mixture. (12 x 75 cl)
The LBV 1995 shows an intense red colour, almost opaque, with garnet hues. The aromas are complete and full of powerful ripe fruit with notes of black plum. The wine is full-bodied with oaky nuances, promising excellent bottle ageing. On the palate, it is fresh, velvety, spicy and lively. Hints of anise, black plum and raspberry are backed up by a soft tannic structure. This is a tasty wine with a nice long finish. Enjoy the wine's vivacity and fruitness now, or lay down to improve quality. A late-bottled vintage port is a single-vintage blend that has been aged four to six years in oak casks, unlike a vintage port which ages only two years in wood before bottling. As a result of this extended wood contact, LBV ports have mature, fruity flavours at a younger age, offering much of the character of a vintage port without the wait and at a lower price. (6 x 75 cl)
