1999 Chateau Sociando Mallet Cru Bourgeois Haut-Medoc Name: Chateau Sociando Mallet Cru Bourgeois Haut-Medoc - 1999 Where it's from:  >France >Bordeaux >Haut-Medoc Price per case: £383.87  Bottle size: 75 cl Bottles per case: 12 Style: Powerful Reds Grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon Description: This estate is located in the commune of Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne in the Haut-Medoc and was purchased by Jean Gautreau in 1969 who started with only 7 hectares and in the last 30 years purchased an additional 50 hectares. The vineyards, which lie close to the Gironde Estuary, are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (25%), Cabernet Franc (25%) and Petit Verdot (5%). Here the grapes are hand harvested and then fermented in a combination of stainless steel and concrete tanks. The wines are then matured in oak barriques (70-90% new) for 12-15 months. Finally, the wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered. The oak dominates this wine while the fruit is evident on the nose it has developed black forrest fruit flavours on the palate. Finally, this wine is showing well-integrated tannins and a good length on the finish.
