Description:
Established in 1989 by John Alban, he has a simple aim to make great tasting wine at the forefront of the Rhone revolution that has developed in California’s Central Coast region.
Concentrating on the great Rhone varitals including Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre, Viognier and Roussanne combined with great attention to detail in the vineyard and winery have all enhanced John Alban's reputation to the extent that Robert Parker described him as 'The Spiritual and qualitative leader of the Rhone Ranger Movement.'
A classic white wine showing a startling Poire Helene nose with aromas of pear, spice, brown sugar and cream. The aromas develop onto the palate while the fruit intensity does not overwhelm as a certain leanness and subtlety combined with good length on the finish.

Reva is an inky/black/purple-tinged wine that delivers wonderful, complex flavours associated with the Syrah, of pepper and spice. Showing a smoky, roasted, dark earth driven mix of graphite, black fruits, and licorice it is supple-textured and seamless through to the enjoyably long sophisticated finish. (6 x 75 cl)
At 90 years of age, Robert Mondavi remains the global emissary for these wine. His vision was to create wines in California that belong in the company of the great wines of the world. Robert Mondavi is known for producing hand-crafted wines of distinct style. Representing the best of California wine growing regions, including the legendary Napa Valley, each of the wines offers unique qualities and characteristics. Robert Mondavi have long recognized the distinctive vineyards of California's coast. For decades they have sourced fruit from coastal regions, and in 1994 introduced Robert Mondavi Private Selection wines to exhibit the high quality and character of the coastal grapes and vineyards. Gentle handling of the grapes, must and wine captured the aromatic character and silky texture of this Merlot. After lightly crushing the grapes, the must was fermented in temperature controlled tanks until dry. Following fermentation, Mondavi kept the skins with the wine for a total of 24 days to naturally soften the tannins and develop varietal complexity. Malolactic fermentation enhanced the wine's roundness and depth. Finally the wine is aged two-thirds in small French and American oak barrels for 5 months to add a hint of oak complexity while retaining the focused fruit flavours. A lovely deep red coloured wine with aromas of dark forrest fruits. Smooth and silky the Merlot displays seductive layers of berry, plum, violet and spice character, culminating in an enjoyable velvety finish . (6 x 75 cl)

Robert Mondavi have long recognized the distinctive vineyards of California's coast. For decades they have sourced fruit from coastal regions, and in 1994 introduced Robert Mondavi Private Selection wines to exhibit the high quality and character of the coastal grapes and vineyards. Mondavi harvested 96% of the grapes for the Chardonnay from the Central Coast AVA, with 81% of the fruit selected from Monterey County and 15% from Santa Barbara County. The balance of the fruit was selected from the North Coast AVA. The marine influence of these two regions slows ripening of Chardonnay grapes, developing vibrant flavours and retaining crisp acidity. Once harvested the grapes were pressed to capture the fresh, lively flavours. 44% of the wine was fermented in small oak barrels for complexity, with the balance in stainless steel tanks to enhance the fruitiness of the wine. After the wine was fermented dry, a selected portion of the blend undergoes partial malolactic fermentation to give a rich, round mouthfeel. Finally barrel-fermented ageing of the wine occurred sur lie in small French and American oak barrels for 10 months to integrate flavours and add soft oak nuances. To heighten the wine's floral and spice aromatics, Mondavi added dashes of Muscat, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier. Elegant tiers of fresh pear, apple and tropical fruit character mingle with delicate floral accents while the wine's vibrant flavours and beautiful balance come from vineyards along California's Central Coast American Viticultural Area . Here, cool Pacific winds temper the summer sun and give Chardonnay grapes ripe flavours with crisp acidity. Fermentation in a combination of small oak barrels and stainless steel tanks wove oak complexity through the wine's array of fruit flavours, and when the wine was aged on yeast it enhanced the silky texture and lingering finish.
