Description:
A large village at the start of the Côte de Nuits, Gevrey Chambertin has one of the largest vineyard areas: no fewer than 330 hectares in production, 82 of which are Premier Cru. Elevation varies between 240 and 280 metres. The soil is limestone, with a good proportion of clay marl originating in scree from the Combe de Lavaux, lending a well-rounded power. 'Lavaux Saint Jacques' is one of the most famed Premiers Crus, often equalling the quality of some of the Grands Crus. The direct southern exposure is without doubt one of the key factors in its tender fleshiness and very prominent silkiness.
Jean-Claude Boisset Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaut St Jacques from France, Burgundy, Gevrey-Chambertin by Jean-Claude Boisset Nuits St Georges (6 x 75 cl)
This Gevrey-Chambertin Le Creot has a good depth of ruby red colour with a touch of brick on the rim. It is intensely perfumed with red fruits and some spicy, smoky notes. The palate is concentrated and powerful, with excellent depth of ripe, rounded fruit, a solid backbone of chunky, tightly-knit tannins and a long, smoky finish. Gevrey-Chambertin has 330 hectares under production at the northern end of the Cote de Nuits. Here, Le Creot, is located on a gentle slope near Brochon, considered to be one of the best areas in the appellation. ‘Cré’ in old French refers to the presence of chalk in the soil and ‘ot’ refers to the height of the vineyard on the slope. (6 x 75 cl)
Produced from 70 year old vines the aromatics concentrate on red fruit over an earthy base while there are smoky notes. On the palate the fruit has some depth and the tannins are very ripe through to the finish. Gevrey-Chambertin has 330 hectares under production at the northern end of the Cote de Nuits. Domaine Armand Rousseau 1er Cru LAVAUX St. JACQUES Gevrey-Chambertin from France, Burgundy, Gevrey-Chambertin by Domaine Armand Rousseau Gevrey Chambertin (6 x 75 cl)
This Gevrey-Chambertin from Jean-Claude Boisset is made using fruit from old vines, primarily from two Premier Cru vineyards in Gevrey. Boisset used to buy wine from the grower who owns the Crepiot vineyard, but since Gregory's arrival they buy grapes instead. In addition, Gregory has worked closely with the grower to improve the quality of the fruit arriving at the winery. This quality shines through in the finished wine, which has lovely black cherry fruit giving way to a minerally yet luscious character on the palate. (6 x 75 cl)
A well made Grand Cru that has spent atleast 15 months barrel ageing is made exclusively from Pinot Noir to produce a ruby colour with a fine sparkle. The nose is intense and very expansive, with black berries at the fore while the mouth is fine, fully texturedshowing unctuous tannins. (6 x 75 cl)
