Le Pupille MORELLINO di SCANSANO Magliano Toscana
Scansano is a fruity, velvety and perfumed red wine. The very first vintage was 1985 and since then, Morellino has continued to accompany the estate as the complete and constant expression of the terroir. Elisabetta Geppetti has injected a great deal of dynamism into Le Pupille's wines in the past few vintages, yet has been careful to look after the detail as well. This is illustrated by the quality and consistency of this Morellino. This estate, long one of our favourite producers in Scansano, has now joined the ranks of the Tuscan superstars. With the release of each vintage, the sense of excitement surrounding the wines is almost as tangible as the opulent fruit that characterises each of Le Pupille's impressive reds. (12 x 75 cl)

Le Pupille MORELLINO di SCANSANO Magliano Toscana
The Morellino di Scansano is a blend of 85% Sangiovese and 15% Alicante and Malvasia Nera. It has delicious ripe fruit on the nose, with the cherry-strawberry hints characteristic of ripe Sangiovese. The Alicante adds greater depth of colour to the blend whereas the Malvasia Nera emphasises the perfume of this ripe, approachable wine. Elisabetta Geppetti has injected a great deal of dynamism into Le Pupille’s wines in the past few vintages, yet has been careful to look after the detail as well. This is illustrated by the quality and consistency of this, their basic Morellino. (12 x 37.5 cl)
Le Pupille POGGIO VALENTE Morellino di Scansano Toscana
The Poggio Valente, Le Pupille’s outstanding single vineyard Morellino, is made from Sangiovese and a small quantity of Alicante. It has superb perfume, depth and flesh. This estate, long one of our favourite producers in Scansano, has now joined the ranks of the Tuscan superstars. With the release of each vintage, the sense of excitement surrounding the wines is almost as tangible as the opulent fruit that characterises each of Le Pupille’s impressive reds. (6 x 75 cl)

Fattoria Dei Barbi Morellino di Scansano
The Colombini family has had properties in Montalcino since 1352 and has owned the Fattoria dei Barbi since 1790. The vineyards cover an area of 100 hectares, approximately 35% of the whole estate. The exposure is east, south-east and the soil type is composed prevalently of Galestro with small components of mud and clay, only a minor part of it has a relevant presence of eocenic sands. This 100% Sangiovese red wine comes from the southern part of Tuscany. It is a full-bodied wine, with a good tannic structure balanced by a lively freshness. The making of Morellino goes back centuries but today its approach is very modern and pleasurable. Has a brilliant and intense ruby red colour with an ample and persistent bouquet of plum and red berry tones. The taste is full and pleasant with velvety tannis and a long finish. (6 x 75 cl)
Azienda Il Grillesino RISERVA Morellino di Scansano
The grapes for this wine come from the well exposed wooded hillsides located in the Grancia area, facing Poggio la Mozza. It is bordered to the west by the Grillese stream and the 'Grillesino' ditch, and hence the producers name. The grapes were destalked and softly pressed and vinified together in stainless steel vats. During the 20-day maceration there were repeated treadings to extract as many of the softest and most complex tannins as possible. At the end of the alcoholic fermentation at a maximum temperature of 30ºC, the wine was then put into new Allier and American oak barrels. The malolactic fermentation was complete at the beginning of the next spring and the wine was transferred carefully and poured into barrels until December. There was not any filtering carried out, only light binding and the wine was bottled in the same month. The wine is produced exclusively from Sangiovese grapes. The wine greatly benefits from the ageing allowing it to mellow in barriques. The result is an intense red coloured wine with cherry aromas in the nose and mouth. An aristocratic wine of great structure, supple and elegant, it has great balance between traditional fullness, body and refinement as well as a modern fruity taste and tannic softness. It is suitable for further ageing. (6 x 75 cl)
