Grapes are sourced from there own 23 hectares of vineyards, which include some four hectares of the renowned Grands Crus Hengst and Brand. In addition Josmeyer have long term contracts for grapes from a further 12 hectares which are worked to the strict Josmeyer principles. The vines are pruned hard and yields are kept well below the average for Alsace. There is a minimal chemical treatment and grass is grown between the rows to restrict yields and encourage the roots deeper into the subsoil. The vineyards are currently being run under the Lutte Raisonnee scheme but the family have experimented successfully with Biodynamie and are moving resolutely towards conversion of all their sources of grape supply to a fully biodynamic regime. All grapes are handpicked and then whole-bunch pressed prior to fermentation in stainless steel tanks.
