Typicity is of great importance for these wines. 100% Pinot Noir wines from the lesser-known yet well-placed vineyards of the southern Cote d'Or are harmoniously united with small lots of superior Santenay or Auxey-Duresses giving an overall result which is startlingly reminiscent of a fine Cote de Beaune wine. This Cuvee Latour Rouge has a beautiful, regal red colour, a full, rich bouquet and ample body, distinctive Pinot Noir fruit, robust tannin and subtle wood overtones together in exemplary balance climaxing in a long finish. Soil: Limestone, clay and granite. Vinification: Traditional methods. (12 x 75 cl)
The village of Pommard is comfortably sandwiched between the town of Beaune and the commune of Volnay. In contrast to the wines of its close neighbours, those of Pommard tend to be fuller, more tannic and expansive in the mouth, similar to those of the Côte de Nuits. The Epenots is solid and firm in its youth and needs time to mature and mellow out before revealing its full glory. It is intense and spicy with a distinct truffle bouquet and a flavourful richness. The 1998 Pommard 1er Cru vintage has a concentrated deep red robe and the palate is a reflection of the concentrated fruity aromas. The wine has a lingering finish and a good length. (12 x 75 cl)
This wine exhibits the characteristics of the great red Burgundies. Noble and full, it has a resplendent colour combining grace with vigour and associating strength with finesse. On the palate fresh raspberries are in evidence when the wine is young. (12 x 75 cl)
With only 5% of the total hectarage under vine being planted with Chardonnay in this appelation, this wine is something of a rarity. However, it is an excellent alternative to some of its more illustrious neighbours of Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet, this completely satisfying Santenay has a pale gold colour. It is medium-bodied with aromas of pears and peaches with light dried fruit characters. Sophisticated, with balanced acidity, this wine boasts a surprising depth of flavour and a persistent length. (12 x 75 cl)
With only 5% of the total hectarage under vine being planted with Chardonnay, this wine is something of a rarity. Coming from the famous spa-town of Santenay, which serves as a rest-cure for those committed to long-term Burgundian indulgence, this white wine is fresh and bursting with ripe apple and nut notes. The finish is smooth and pleasurable. Soil: Marl and limestone. Vinification: 100% malolactic fermentation. (12 x 75 cl)
From the gently sloping hillside overlooking the ancient walled town of Beaune comes this classic white Burgundy from Maison Louis Latour. White Beaune accounts for only 5% of the total production from this appellation. The soil in this region is made up of chalk and limestone which suits the Chardonnay well. The unique terroir and traditional oak cask ageing produce a wine with an elegant bouquet, which is rich and thick in body displaying a generous buttery fruit character. It is well-balanced and has a crisp acidity and a long finish. Soil: Limestone and chalk. Vinification: Aged in oak casks with 100% malolactic fermentation. Clear, pale lemon-yellow in the glass, this Beaune has a delicately fruity nose with scents of apricot and minerals. The palate is fresh with crisp acidity, round structure and subtle hints of butter and lemon as well as warm alcohol that lingers (12 x 75 cl)
