Masi MASIANCO Masi Pinot Grigio/Verduzzo delle Venezie IGT
The wine has a bright pale straw colour with golden reflections. The complex and appealing bouquet shows fresh notes of white fruit and citrus, as well as warmer aromas of apricot, honey and dried figs. On the palate it is full, overwhelming and smooth, with a delicate vanilla note on the finish. (6 x 75 cl)
Masi MASIANCO Pinot Grigio and Verduzzo delle Venezie IGT
Masi is well-known for its specialization in the production of red wines from the appassimento and double fermentation processes. For the production of Masianco, Verduzzo grapes are ripened further after picking; this unusual process for an elegant white wine makes for more roundness, body and richness, characteristics which complement the fine aromas and the elegant fruity notes of Pinot Grigio. The finely judged blend between the two native grape varieties and the particular winemaking technique contribute to the creation of a modern wine with a strong Venetian personality, a “Supervenetian” wine of unmistakable Masi style, like the well-known Campofiorin red. The two grape varieties are harvested at their optimal ripening time and vinified separately. Pinot Grigio grapes are harvested at the end of August and vinified immediately in order to enhance freshness and aromas. Verduzzo grapes are harvested at the end of September, then further ripened on racks for three weeks. This is a process particularly suitable to this varietal because of its thick skin and it makes for a better concentration of fruit. The Pinot Grigio is fermented at a low temperature and the malolactic fermentation is arrested before completion. The Verduzzo undergoes a short maceration at low temperature before fermentation in barrique where it also completes the malolactic fermentation. The two wines are blended before bottling. Masi CAMPOLONGO di TORBE Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Veneto
DESCRIPTION OF THE WINE Campolongo di Torbe is the most elegant of Masi’s Amarone crus. It is characterized by a rounded almondy flavour and by great intensity and balance. The choice of this vineyard is based not only on many years of technical experimentation at the Masi winery, but also on a very important historical document that indicates Mazzano and Torbe vineyards as the best in the valley for the production of this high-quality wine. In fact, with a contract dated 1194 , the monks of San Zeno Monastery, landowners of the entire Negrar Valley, leased the land to a certain Musio di Panego for a period of 29 years. The rent had to be paid with a certain quantity of grapes produced in the best area of the fiefdom, indicated as the Mazzano vineyards. If the vineyards yielded a poor crop because of hail, or other reasons, grapes had to be harvested at Capavo. This denomination is no longer in use but it corresponds to the upper hillside area of Torbe, where the vineyards of Campolongo di Torbe are now located. (6 x 75 cl)
