Sherwood Estate is very much a family business, with Dayne and Jill Sherwood owning and operating it since the late 1980's. The winery is located in the picturesque Waipara Valley, while they have four vineyards also owned by Sherwood Estate in the famed Marlborough Region, at the top of the South Island. Based on nearly twenty years of growing grapes and making wine, Sherwood Estate now specialise in Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling. Sherwood Estate produce three ranges of wines the Clearwater Range, the Sherwood Estate Range and the the Stratum Range. The Sherwood range proudly carries the name of the winery and reflects Sherwood Estate's commitment to the highest quality. The wines are varietally focussed and come from Sherwood Estates Rowley Crescent vineyard in Marlborough as well as selected growers in the Awatere Valley. After a gentle pressing and light settling the chardonnay was barrel and tank fermented. This was followed by an extended lees contact period and lightly fined, filtered and bottled. The lovely yellow coloured Chardonnay displays stone fruit characters on the nose with delicate oak aromas from ageing. On the palate this wine is rich, round with well balanced acidity and enjoyable finish. (12 x 75 cl)

The Clearwater range represents the very best varietal single vineyard wines from Sherwood Estate's own vineyards in Waipara. This is very much a hand crafted range both in the vineyards and winery, here meticulous care is taken to ensure that the wine produced is of the highest quality and reflects each vineyard's unique characteristics or 'terroir'. The fruit was hand harvested from the West Melton vineyard and in the winery a gentle pressing was undertaken with the juice fermented and aged on lees in French oak barriques . Following a light fining and filtration the wine was bottled. Matured on the lees to give this wine its wonderful complexity and character, this Chardonnay displays richness and concentration of flavour. Tropical and stonefruit aromas are evident on the nose, while the palate is full and rounded with a long persistent finish. (12 x 75 cl)

The fruit was harvested at night and transported to the winery where the fruit was gently pressed. Selecting only the free run and light pressings the juice was settled and cool fermented for an average of 19 days. Following an extended three month period of yeast lees contact the various parcels of Sauvignon Blanc were blended together, lightly fined and filtered prior to bottling. Intense gooseberry fruit on the nose with hints of guava and papaya give way to a well balanced palate and long concentrated finish. (12 x 75 cl)
