Chateau Giscours 3eme Cru Classe Margaux
This vineyard is located on a beautiful 300 hectare estate. It was documented in 1330 but it was not until 1847 that Count de Pescatore laid the cornerstone of the exquisite chateau overlooking the vines. Giscours' quality was confirmed by its inclusion as a third growth in the 1855 classification. The estate was purchased by Nicolas Tari after World War II and he made major investments in modernising Giscours. In 1995, Eric Albada Jelgersma acquired the right to grow vines and make wine on the estate. He continues to lavish the care and attention that are necessary to maintain Giscours' standing as a world-famous great growth. The 1996 is an open, fruity style with attractive, berry flavours, and is fine for drinking now and over the next decade. (12 x 75 cl)

Situated amidst 300 hectares of meadows and forests, the vineyards cover more than 80 hectares. They are divided into two separate sections and 43 distinct parcels. The grape varieties are perfectly adapted to each plot. The varieties at Giscours are the same as at the finest Médoc châteaux. Cabernet Sauvignon predominates and Merlot accounts for 32%. This combination is rounded out by Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot grapes, totalling 17%. Hand-picking is one of the ways that Château Giscours ensures that only high-quality grapes are crushed and pressed. The grapes are handled very gently and as little as possible. In addition, they are sorted by hand in the cellar and only those considered worthy of our grand vin are used. Château Giscours is one of the first wine estates to use a computer to manage all aspects of winemaking, from viticulture to ageing wine in the cellar. Information about the vines, down to the smallest parcel, is stored in the master computer. Everything done in the vineyards and cellar is registered and saved for future reference. This makes it possible to have in-depth knowledge about all aspects of the estate in order to create a great wine. At Château Giscours, wine is aged in oak barrels from the finest cooperages. In the long term, this develops a perfect balance between oak and wine.
