Yalumba Y SERIES Sauvignon Blanc South Australia

The wine is deep and dense cherry red in colour with a nose of brooding Cabernet fruit, berries and plum, with toasty oak. The palate is of vibrant, sweet berry fruit finishing with a firm tannin structure. (6 x 75 cl)

One of Australia's finest explorers, Sir Douglas Mawson inspired the world with his courage and heroic feats and Yalumba was proud to be a sponsor of Mawson's pioneering Antarctic expeditions in 1911-14. In honour of the winery's historic association with this great Australian hero, Yalumba has released Mawson's, a range of wines that reflect the spirit of this great adventurer. Yalumba have been growing Sauvignon Blanc at Wrattonbully since the vineyards were first planted in the mid 1990s. Every year the fruit has showed vibrant and intense flavours and characters that they look for in the variety and this vintage lives up to this. Very pale straw in colour with lively green tinges, this Sauvignon Blanc is showing a very fresh canned pea and cut grass aromas, with a touch of fragrant spice and hints of nettle leaf. The palate offers layers of lemons and fresh cut herb flavours with long, flinty textures, while it finishes with lingering flavours and a zesty natural acidity.

The Yalumba Y Series Merlot is cherry red in colour with red berry fruit, mint, spice and mocha oak on the nose. The palate boasts vibrant fruit flavours with a generous fleshy mid palate. Velvety tannins add structure and results in a wine that will benefit from short term cellaring of up to years. This Merlot makes a great food match with Mediterranean dishes such as pasta or risotto. (6 x 75 cl)

Golden in colour, the Yalumba Viognier is an enchanting wine with aromas of lemon and honeysuckle with hints of spice. The palate is rich, luscious and silky with juicy tropical fruit,citrus and lychee. These exotic flavours are intensified when paired with food. The Yalumba Y Series Riesling is pale straw in colour and shows classic varietal character with an aroma of grapefruit and lemon peel with delicate floral overtones. The palate is lively and refreshing with generous citrus fruit flavours and a hint of ripe tropical fruits on the finish. This wine is great from current drinking and for those who enjoy the subtle toast and honey flavours of aged Riesling wines, this wine will cellar well for 5-8 years.Gentle processing of the grapes, using only the clearest free-run juice and following this up with a cool, even fermentation has resulted in a wine that is amazingly fresh in flavour.
