Crown Estates were previously know at Tokaji Kereskedohas (effectively the state monopoly during the communist era) and are now the only important Tokaji producer still in Hungarian hands. Much of the rest of the industry was sold elsewhere in the rush to privatise in the late 1980's, but Crown Estates managed to hold on to some serious vineyard holdings within the region together with the Szarvas vineyard - classified as one of the two 'Great First Growths' in the 1730s. Tasting note: Deep amber brown. Intense almost cold tea nose over very ripe prunes and concentrated golden syrup. Very ripe, sweet fruit with almost citric balancing acidity at the back of the palate. Huge complexity and length.
