Traditional Spanish wine makers, Bodegas Piqueras, DO Almansa lay 100km inland from Valencia and Alicante, east of Albacete. The soil is basically calcareous with the climate extremely continental, cold winters and hot summers are ideal for the cultivation of the Tempranillo and Monastrol grapes. Bodegas Piqueras was founded in 1915 and winemaker Juan Pablo Bonete now limits production to ensure eminent wines of distinction. The 1996 Castillo de Almansa is possibly our best selling oak-aged red wine, and understandably so. Offering all the style, weight and class of a Rioja Reserva but at a considerable saving due it laying outside the Rioja labelling. This wine is a Rioja Reserva in all but name... and price! (12 x 75 cl)
Young, well balanced red wine with intense berry fruit flavours and soft tannins. Produced by carbonic maceration of whole bunches of grapes to maximize fruit and colour. (12 x 75 cl)
