Description:
With 40 hectares of vineyards - 33 hectares in the Layon, 5 in Saumur and 2 hectares in Savennieres, Domaine du Petit Metris is still run and owned by the Renou family.
Great care is taken from the vineyard to the winery as yields are very tightly restricted and at harvest time a very careful selection is made in the vineyards with only the healthiest and ripest fruit being picked. Here the grapes are matured in a combination of large wooden foudres and smaller barriques to produce rich, well balanced and intensely satisfying styled wines.
This is a lemon coloured wine with a golden hue, while the nose is showing a chalky minerality with notes of citrus fruit including grapefruit and orange. This zesty citrus character develops on the palate complementing the well balanced acidity and firm structure culminating in an enjoyable finish.
Domaine la Pierre Blanche Coteaux du Layon from France, Loire, Coteaux Du Layon by Domaine la Pierre Blanche Other White And Red Dessert Wines (6 x 75 cl)
Vincent Ogereau is currently considered one of the outstanding producers from this dynamic region of the Loire Valley. This appellation, in the region around the medieval city of Angers, produces its high-quality white sweet wines from grapes grown along the Layon River. The climate, soils and grape type are ideal for producing some of the world's finest sweet wines. The early morning fog rising off the Layon River creates the high humidity necessary for developing Botrytis Cinerea, the famous "Noble-Rot" which makes great sweet white wines such as Sauternes. The warm afternoon sun and long harvest season allows full ripening of the grapes, which shrivel and concentrate the sugars. At a top domaine like Ogereau, the harvest is conducted in a series of tries, or passes through the vineyard to select only the ripest grapes. This sweet wine is made from 100% Chenin Blanc with good balancing acidity and ripe apricots, peaches, pears and notes of vanilla. (6 x 75 cl)
Built about 1450, this splendid Chateau owes its name to the Raoul knight who lived there. The house was then known under the name of 'Raoulerie', the residence of Sieur Raoul, which gave then Roulerie, its current name. This is a delicious sweet Chenin Blanc that has spent 6 months in 400 litre oak barreles. This has produced a lovely golden coloured wine with aromas of citrus fruits as well as hints of exotic wood. In the mouth there is a beautiful expresssion of exotic fruits leading to a sharp and elegant mineral point, while the fruit develops into the fine, delicate finish. Available in 37.5 cl Half Bottles. (24 x 37.5 cl)
Coteaux du Languedoc Rose made from a blend of Cinsault, Carignan, Grenache, Syrah and Mouvedre. Fragrant, Zippy and sappy this Rose has a good fruit weight through to the finish. (12 x 75 cl)
