Description: Our Frei Ranch Vineyard Zinfandel is an elegant and well-balanced wine. It showcases characters of black pepper spice, plum, and ripe berry, matched with sweet vanilla and toast from the oak barrels.
The grape clusters were de-stemmed, but not crushed, to retain the grape's varietal essence The grapes were then sent to vertical fermenters, where temperatures were kept between 88 and 92 F, with cap circulations occurring regularly for gentle, yet maximum, extraction of flavor and body from the grape skins. Once dry, the wine was transferred to oak barrels for an average of 13 months, during which the wine completed Malolactic Fermentation. The wine's rich character was accentuated by the use of American, French and European oak barrels. The barrels were racked every four to six months in the aging cycle to clarify the wine naturally and to assist in the aging process. The wine was not fined and only minimally filtered prior to bottling to retain the natural essence of the grapes.
Zinfandel grapes for this wine were harvested from select sites on the Frei Ranch Vineyard. Grapes were picked during the month of September at 24.8 to 25.2º brix.

The Gallo of Sonoma Frei Ranch Vineyard, first planted by Charles Dunz and Andrew Frei in the late 1800's, is located in the cooler benchlands of Sonoma County's Dry Creek Valley. In this hillside location, soils are a combination of gravel, clay and loam. Its unique combination of climate and hillside Manzanita and Suther series soils yields Zinfandel grapes which make full-bodied, complex wines with aromas and flavors of plum, ripe berry and black pepper spice.

Gallo Family Vineyards FREI RANCH Cabernet Sauvignon Dry Creek Valley California
Our Frei Ranch Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon has deep aromas and flavors of black cherry, mint, and cassis. The layers of fruit are balanced delightfully with spice and toasty oak. The grape clusters were destemmed but not crushed, to increase the percentage of whole berries sent to vertical and rotary fermenters. This allows us to better retain the grape's varietal essence and reduce the potential for bitter tannin extraction in the wine. Fermentation temperatures were kept between 85 and 88 F, with cap circulation occurring regularly for gentle, yet maximum, extraction of flavor and body from the grape skins. After fermentation, the wine was transferred to European, American, and French oak barrels for 24 months of aging. The barrels were racked every three to four months in the aging cycle to clarify the wine naturally and to assist in the aging process. This wine completed malolactic fermentation and it was minimally filtered prior to bottling to enhance bouquet, flavor, and body. The grapes for this wine were predominately estate grown on our Frei Ranch Vineyard. To intensify varietal character, shoot and leaf removal and cluster thinning were employed in the vineyard. Dry Creek Vineyards HERITAGE CLONE Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley California
Dry Creek Vineyard was the first new winery to be established in the Dry Creek Valley since the days of Prohibition, when David Stare arrived in 1972. Today, Dry Creek Vineyard wines are easy to recognise due to the spirited yacht paintings that appear on the label of each bottle. David Stare's pioneering vision launched a new era of premium wine production in the Dry Creek Valley. Inspired by his travels throughout the traditional wine regions of France and Germany, Dave's focus was ever on quality. To persue this focus, small batch winemaking has been adopted because individual-lot winemaking promotes increased knowledge about how to manage each vineyard while offering maximum blending options and enhanced quality control. Dry Creek Vineyard insists on crafting each lot of wine separately with each vineyard lot crushed, fermented, and barrel aged separately. Approximately 75-100 different wines are produced each vintage, where fining is the exception, not the rule. Zinfandel Heritage Clone is the product of experimentation with budwood from a pre-Prohibition era vineyard. The result is a rustic, traditional style of Zinfandel, with ripe berry aromas and flavours bolstered by earthy, dusty notes. It is well structured with a balanced vanilla oak finish. (12 x 75 cl)
