Description:
The Moscato Rosa from Franz Haas has a deep cherry pink colour. In youth, it has intense perfumes of roses and cloves which change into faded roses and redberry fruits with age. The wine is very complex and smooth on the palate. Moscato Rosa is best drunk as an aperitif or an after dinner wine and will improve with age. It is perhaps one of Italy’s most sought after sweet wines. The Moscato Rosa is vinified as a red wine, with maceration on the skins to extract more colour. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and is stopped by reducing the temperature. After fermentation, it is racked into oak barrels (some new) where it matures for approximately 8-12 months depending on the vintage, followed by a period of six months in bottle before release. The Haas family have been growers in Montagna in the Province of Bolzano, Alto Adige for generations. It is only with Franz, however, the current proprietor, that they have begun to produce and bottle quality wines. The vineyards are primarily situated on and around the hilly slopes of Montagna at altitudes ranging from 250-800m above sea level.
This Pinot Nero ‘Cru’ is a light ruby red. On the nose, it is open and generous, with perfumes of ripe red berries whose juicy freshness is tempered by a spicy sheen of oak. On the palate, it is ripe and rounded, with sufficient structure to balance the soft ripe fruit and fresh acidity. The Haas family has been growing grapes in Montagna in the province of Bolzano, Alto Adige for generations. It is only with Franz, however, the current proprietor, that they have begun to produce and bottle quality wines. Franz Haas goes to tremendous lengths to grow good grapes, and then strives to preserve the flavours of the fruit during winemaking. As a result the wines that he produces are infused with great character, and show a rare purity and balance on the palate. (6 x 75 cl)
This Pinot Noir, or as it is known locally Pinot Nero, has great aromatic lift and wonderful depth on the palate. Available in half bottles. (12 x 37.5 cl)
This Pinot Nero has decent colour and attractive aromatics. It is deep ruby red in colour, with raspberry and cherry perfumes in its youth which mature to ripe red berries with a little bottle age. On the palate it has good grip, wonderful depth and intensity, a supple texture and good length and balance. The Franz Haas Winery focuses on varietals which best express the wonderful character, varied microclimates and unique terroir of the Alto Adige. Founded in 1880, the Franz Haas Winery is a family owned property that has passed from father to son. Today, Franz Haas is the seventh generation to grow grapes on this beautiful estate, nestled at the foothills of the Alps. Very fresh and aromatic, with the Riesling and Traminer Aromatico to the fore. The barrel fermented Chardonnay adds depth and weight to the palate and a lightly spicy, but wellintegrated perfume to the nose. Tremendous length with the mineral quality of the Riesling lasting through to the finish. The success of the Haas wines is due to the remarkable character with which Franz manages to infuse his wines, and the fact that his ego doesn't dictate that he charges the sort of prices they get away with in Fruili. Franz is notoriously difficult to please when it comes to his own wines, but this produces wines of rare purity and balance, such is his desire to grow good grapes and preserve the flavours during winemaking.
