The Franschhoek Valley ward is a relatively small area which was settled in the late 1600's by 200 Protestant Huguenot immigrants fleeing from Catholic persecution in France - hence its French background and winemaking tradition.
Under new ownership and management, Franschhoek Vineyards has shed the old co- op image and is well into top gear in a drive to make quality wines through the Forge Mill label.
New wine making equipment installed for the 2001 vintage has been put to good use by the winemaker, Deon Truter. The aim is to produce clean, well made wines with true varietal character that have good weight of fruit with easy drinking finishes.
The new manager, Daan Coetzee, has produced a comprehensive range for export from a selection of the best grapes. This medium to full bodied dry red wine, has an approachable earthy and berry fruit aroma. It is softly styled in character with an enjoyable finish.
