The PianoAlto estate surrounds its old farmhouse on the Crena ridge, with a lovely view of the village of Agliano d'Asti. The oldest vineyard produces the grapes used for PianoAlto, a Barbera d'Asti Superiore that bears the designation NIZZA, the best-suited sub-zone for the production of this fine red wine. The use of Piedmontese double-sized barrels for ageing brings out the best of its typical characteristics.

Bava STRADIVARIO Barbera d'Asti DOC Piedmont
Tasting An intense and rich wine, with a subtle vanilla scent, smooth and velvety on the palate, of great elegance. Not filtered. Vineyard/Territory From the Gura vineyard at Cocconato and subsequent replantations. Wine Production Wine making is characterized by delicate maceration, immediately followed by fining in new barriques for about 18 months. This name was not chosen by chance. The dedication to the well-known violin is due to the amusing, but tried and tested theory that particular sounds accompany particular tastes during concerts in the wine cellar.Stradivario is a Barbera d'Asti Superiore made from grapes harvested at Cocconato, on the calcareous hills of the high Asti region. Deeply rooted in this area for four generations, the BAVA family has kept the oldest vineyard for the production of these red grapes. They give a pure, long-lived Barbera, made in accordance with the international rules that reward strength and depth, without denying the territory identity. The grapes are harvested very ripe, and the yield is kept low in the vineyard. The wine making is characterized by a moderate contact with the air and delicate macerations, immediately followed by fining in new barriques. The outcome is a well-definite wine, extraordinarily rigorous, which recurs and keeps for years. Its outstanding elegance and superb aromatic precision come from its fining, masterfully merged with the Barbera character. (6 x 75 cl)
Bava LIBERA Barbera d'Asti DOC Piedmont
Tasting Deep red with ruby hues; fragrant bouquet Fruity, fresh, and surprisingly supple to the palate Vineyard/Territory from the younger vineyards of the PianoAlto estate at Crena, Agliano d'Asti Wine Production Fermentation takes place in steel tanks Aged in the bottle before its release on the market Modern, surprising and fashionable, LIBERA is above all a good Barbera wine, made from the youngest vines at the PianoAlto estate in Agliano. All the wines produced by this estate are of prominent standing. They reflect best the qualities of the most classic Barbera-growing area, since the village is part of the NIZZA subzone. Libera is a Barbera that accompanies the most diverse foods. Thanks to its extraordinary versatility, it has been received warmly by international wine buyers (12 x 75 cl)
Bava ARBEST Barbera d'Asti DOC Piedmont
Tasting Nice deep red. Fragrant scents of ripe little red berries. A rich and warm wine, requiring demanding food pairings. Vineyard/Territory Only estate-grown Barbera from the old vineyards of Cocconato and Agliano. Wine Production Proper maceration on the skins is followed by storage in new and used barriques and, finally, bottle aging It is precisely on the steepest slopes (6 x 75 cl)
Bava BASS TUBA Moscato d'Asti Piedmont
Tasting Light straw yellow color, with constant strings of fine bubbles. The fragrance is reinforced by the extraordinarily rich natural sugar content, perfectly balanced by the right degree of acidity. Vineyard/TerritoryGrapes cultivated in a single, historic vineyard in Castiglione Tinella. Wine Production The grapes are picked in wicker baskets, pressed and the must is kept at low temperatures. The wine is then bottled immediately after fermentation. We are enchanted by this extroverted, sunny Moscato, which we have called Bass Tuba ever since, back in the nineteen- eighties, we were the first to break with tradition and modernize the image then associated with Asti Spumante. Bottling it in a Bordeaux bottle normally utilized for an important red and a careful selection and reduction of vineyard yields, maniacally scrupulous cellar handling and bottle aging finished the job. Today, Bass Tuba is still a Cru and still provides full satisfaction, even in the new half-bottle format. A key feature is its low alcohol content, making it a wine everyone can drink, perfect for toasts on any occasion. It should always be stored and served well chilled. We are still convinced we have chosen the right instrument for the label, suggesting celebrations and rich band sounds, as distinctive as the aroma of Bava Moscato (12 x 37.5 cl)
Bava CONTROVENTO Dolcetto d'Alba DOC Piedmont
Tasting Smooth and velvety in character, this wine retains the dry taste of a red and rounded tannins. Its dense color is characteristic. Vineyard/Territory Grapes grown in Castiglione Falletto Wine Production The grapes are picked quite ripe, then fermented and aged in steel vats first and then in the bottle, to ensure the right blend of youth and concentration. In contrast to the mainstream of successful international vines, Dolcetto is a much-admired, exclusively Piedmontese variety. Controvento was first made years ago at our winery in Castiglione Falletto, when the leading international strains first established themselves in Piemonte and we felt the need to reaffirm the existence of important indigenous grapes that deserved attention. Produced in the area of the great Nebbiolos, it shares the same exposures and proves that intensity and character can coexist with elegance and smoothness. A seductive, versatile wine, it can accompany sumptuous northern Italian cuisine as well as the new oriental crossover creations. The label features a corkscrew from the turn of the twentieth century, part of the collection on display at the wine cellars. (12 x 75 cl)
Bava ALTRASERRE Monferrato Bianco DOC Piedmont
Tasting Bright straw yellow; smooth, rich taste with a slight, very chic woody note that reinforces its impressive longevity. The Chardonnay is fermented in wood for ten months, while the Cortese is fermented and aged strictly in steel vats, to reinforce its freshness: once blended and bottled, they are aged for a prolonged period. Grape Varieties and Vineyards Two strains, Cortese and Chardonnay, from our vineyards in Monferrato at Cocconato. Created over ten years ago to prove that a region famous for its reds can also produce a white wine of true stature, fascinating and modern in character. Alteserre is a wine of breed, reliable and elegant. Its refinement has proved to stand the test of time, with an allure worthy of a grand Cru, providing the ideal accompaniment for dishes of international haute cuisine. Today, Alteserre is a proven success, and no one is surprised any longer to see a white that is aged several years and is available in various vintages and in magnum bottles, for vertical tastings, as if it were a Barolo, or a Barbera Superiore (6 x 75 cl)
Bava VIOLONCELLO Barbaresco DOCG Piedmont
Tasting Broad and airy, fully expressing the supple character of cellar-aged Nebbiolos, with an excellent aging potential. Vineyard/Territory Vineyard located in the municipality of Barbaresco. Wine Production Fermentation in wooden vats; aged 18 months in small barrels. For many years now we have produced this exclusive selection of Barbaresco grapes, all from a single vineyard planted on shallow soils alternating limestone and marls, for a limited edition of very exciting bottles. We were looking for a more enchanting and feminine wine, unmistakably complex, but still capable of bringing out the bass notes of great Nebbiolo grapes. (12 x 75 cl)
Bava Monferrato Nebbiolo Vigneti di Cadodo Piedmont
Tasting Outstandingly supple, enjoyable both fresh and aged, thanks to its ripe, soft tannins. A very expressive wine, suave, modern, and seductive. Grape Varieties Two thirds Nebbiolo, one third Barbera and Merlot Vineyard from one single vineyard, a cru at Tuffo near Cocconato d'Asti. Wine Production The grapes are fermented separately in steel vats. Ten months in oak. The bricco di Cadodo cru is an ideal location, the name designates a hill on whose crest the Bavas have patiently tended their vines ever since the 17th century. The wine, whose label bears the new Monferrato DOC designation, is an interesting example of how Nebbiolo, a variety of noble tradition, when planted in the Monferrato area, a short distance from the Langa, its land of origin and choice, can produce a new wine with an old heart. Thanks to the Barbera and the Merlot integrating the map of varieties planted in the Cadodo vineyards, the qualities of this wine are enhanced by the limestone and chalk in the soils of this terroir. It is endowed with natural elegance and drinkability, in tune with modern Italian trends. (6 x 75 cl)
Bava CONTRABASSO Barolo di Castiglione Faletto DOCG Piedmont
Tasting Generous and very elegant, styled to provide a pleasantness which is invariably enhanced over time. Vineyard/Territory Vineyards of Altacosta in the municipality of Castiglione Falletto. Estate-owned farm in Castiglione Falletto. Cru Scarrone. Vineyard/Territory Vineyards of Altacosta in the municipality of Castiglione Falletto. Estate-owned farm in Castiglione Falletto. Cru Scarrone. Wine Production Ripe grapes fermented in specially crafted Fontainebleau oak vats with extended maceration on the skins.. This wine comes from our vineyards in Castiglione Falletto, at the heart of the Scarrone Cru area, where we have rebuilt the old farmhouse with a wine cellar well stocked with wooden vats to permit the fermentation of Nebbiolo on the spot. Vinification of pure Nebbiolo with extensive maceration in oak testifies to our respect for tradition and the goal of making remarkable wines, full-bodied, robust and particularly long. Suave, finely cellared and with a non-aggressive structure, this wine does not lack personality. In vintages favorable to structure, the time possibly spent in barriques encourages prospective drinkers not to open these great bottles too hastily (12 x 75 cl)
