Description: Founded in 1967, Carpineto is a partnership between acclaimed winemakers Giovanni C. Sacchet and Antonio M. Zaccheo. Their original mission was to produce a world-class red wine from the Chianti Classico appellation. This was a radical departure from the marketplace of the times when most Chianti was still produced in the traditional winemaking style.

Carpineto's visionary founders knew the untapped potential of the Tuscan landscape to produce truly great wines. By applying modern viticulture and winemaking techniques, they dramatically exceeded the quality standards of the day. Under their direction, Carpineto developed an award winning, international reputation for wines of matchless intensity and extract, as well as consistency vintage after vintage.

In the old days, wines that were consumed after special meals or by themselves because of their value and organoleptic characteristics were considered 'luxury wines'. Vinsanto was one of these wines, made particularly valuable by the fact that each family's father or grandfather would make their own, following a time honored recipe handed down through generations. Many origins of this wine, and its singular name, have been hypothesized, the truth however is lost in time.

One legend from Siena states that a friar from the fourteenth century would hand this wine to the ill and acclaimed for its healing properties. From this the belief that this wine had miraculous properties was born, hence the name 'Santo'. Another possible explanation to the name comes from its use by the church during the mass.

From th vineyard to the winery great care is taken in producing this wine. The harvested grapes are dried in wooden boxes then slowly barrel fermented during the winter months. During this time part of the wine was aged in traditional ''caratelli'', small barrels made of chestnut, the other part was aged in oak barrels, all for a total of 16 years.

This wine is a golden yellow colour with bronze hues and an intense and complex bouquet with hints of apricot and peach jam, walnut, and typical Malvasia aromatics. There is good balance between the complex, intense balsamic fragrances, the alcohol and the sweetness, while it is long and persistent.

Available in 50 cl bottles.

Barone Ricasoli VIN SANTO Chianti Classico
Castello di Brolio is one of the oldest wine producers in the world and is situated in the heart of the Chianti Classico region of Italy. Located in Gaiole in Chianti, it has one of the longest histories of any wine estate in the world, having produced wine since 1141. In 1993, Barone Francesco Ricasoli took back control of the estate, spending millions of dollars replanting vineyards and upgrading the cellars. Today, Brolio is again one of Tuscany's leading wine estates. Using the traditional method of vinification the Malvasia , Canaiolo and Sangiovese grapes selected are hung clusters and left to wither for approximately four months in a ventilated atmosphere. The must obtained is fermented slowly for approximately 2 years, and then aged a further 3 years in the barrel. This traditional method of making Vin Santo has produced a dessert wine with a beautiful deep golden colour with amber hues. The intense and fragrant bouquet leads to a full and lingering taste of almonds and raisins with a great finish. Available in half bottles. (6 x 37.5 cl)
