Description:
Founded in Tortona, in the Province of Alessandria in 1914, Cantine Volpi has been able to build, step-by-step, a distintive role in its region as a producer of high quality wines using the local grapes Cortese, Barbera and Dolcetto.
Barbera is rapidly gaining popularity in the UK, and this is an excellent example of a good economical Barbera which is light and abundantly fruity. A lovely wine for any occasion. (12 x 75 cl)
Gavi in 1999 became a DOCG wine. The wine is the thoroughbred of Tortona and is dry, with a delicate texture and mellow fruits, with a soft, greenish-white colour. (12 x 75 cl)
A very good example of a middle of the road Barolo at a very good price. The wine is subtle, robust and elegant, and is drinking well now, but is still capable of some ageing. (12 x 75 cl)
Classic white wine from Piedmont. It has a pale yellow colour with greenish reflections. Fresh and delicate on the nose with fruity notes, fragrant and dry taste. (6 x 75 cl)
Tasting Intense colour and complex aromas in a wine with great body, typical of NIZZA Barberas. The oak is not overpowering and the wine has excellent ageing potential. Vineyard/Territory From the oldest vineyards at the PianoAlto estate, in Crena. Wine Production The wine is aged in 1500 litre Piedmontese barrels, custom-coopered using new wood. The wine is bottled directly from the barrels, without filtration. The PianoAlto estate surrounds its old farmhouse on the Crena ridge, with a lovely view of the village of Agliano d'Asti. The oldest vineyard produces the grapes used for PianoAlto, a Barbera d'Asti Superiore that bears the designation NIZZA, the best-suited sub-zone for the production of this fine red wine. The use of Piedmontese double-sized barrels for ageing brings out the best of its typical characteristics. (6 x 75 cl)
