The Wine: Brunello di Montalcino is without a doubt the most precious, the most famous and the most representative of the whole Italian oenological production. It is often included in the official menus of the Royal and presidential spreads. A powerfully structured wine with a deep and rich bouquet. Vinification: a little tannic in youth, after 5-6 years it matures towards an austere, warm and ample flavour. Brunello is capable of grandeur with great age. (6 x 75 cl)

The Colombini family has had properties in Montalcino since 1352 and has owned the Fattoria dei Barbi since 1790. The vineyards cover an area of 100 hectares, approximately 35% of the whole estate. The exposure is east, south-east and the soil type is composed prevalently of Galestro with small components of mud and clay, only a minor part of it has a relevant presence of eocenic sands. This red wine has been produced since 1892 and has won many awards. It is made with 100% Sangiovese grapes from Fattoria dei Barbi's best vineyards in Montalcino. The wine is aged for three years in oak barrels followed by a further 12 months in the bottle. The 1998 vintage is a brilliant and intense ruby red coloured wine with an ample and persistent bouquet of plum and red berry tones. The taste is full and pleasant with velvety tannis and a long finish. (6 x 75 cl)
