The Bossi castle is situated in the Castelnuovo Berardenga commune in the midst of evergreen woods and fields full of fossil-rich minerals and has been a focus of local history for many centuries. Bought by the Bacci family it has been totally restored while the Bossi wines, made by oenologist Alberto Antonioni, have exalted fruit flavours; they are smooth, rich and complex, a far cry from the rustic tongue-dissolvers one associates with basic Chianti. The Berardo uses Sangiovese and Merlot that are vinified separately in wooden vats while the maturation takes place in French wood barrels for about 12 months. This has produced an enticing full ruby coloured wine showing seductive aromas combining fresh notes of wild berries with more evolved notes of cinchona and tamarind that suggest a wine of rich complexity. Texturally, the wine is comparatively soft, almost creamy, its tannic component being beautifully amalgamated. (12 x 75 cl)
Tasting notes: A rich, luminous ruby red. Appealing, crisp notes of menthol emerge on the nose, blending beautifully with more developed aromas reminiscent of cinchona and tamarind. The wine enters smooth and almost creamy, massive and full, but not in the least aggressive. Tannins are well integrated with the alcohol, and a seductive, tasty finish lingers quite long. (6 x 75 cl)
