Description:
This estate dates back to the 16th century with a chateau built partly in 1737 and partly in 1850. The epicurean Raymond Dupin ran Grand Puy Lacoste from 1932 to 1987 and bestowed an excellent reputation upon the wine. The Borie family have subsequently built on this so that it has risen above its cinquieme Cru classe status. Its facets usually include a rich polished, duly concentrated taste with noble tannins. It contains splendid fruit like blackcurrant and often cherry and plum plus restrained oak and vanilla notes with earthy, spicy elements. "Dark ruby-coloured with purple nuances, the supple, lush, fruity 1995 possesses medium body, light intensity new oak, soft tannin, and low acidity. Made in a clean, medium-bodied, user-friendly, accessible style, this wine will have many fans." Parker, 87.
