Description:
Best's winery was established on the banks of the Concongella Creek in 1866 by Henry Best, who knew little about wine, but whose capacity for work was prodigious, so the winery flourished. In 1920 the enterprise was purchased by neighbour and second-generation vigneron, Frederick P Thomson. Under the Thomson family, the Best's name continues to thrive.
Fourth generation winemaker, Viv Thomson and son, Ben, continue to combine traditional methods with today's technology. Forward thinking and a no-conpromise approach to quality creates wine of integrity, and Best's are renowned for highly individual, long-living wines which reflect the distinctive characteristics of the region.
That it is still in the hands of the Thomson's is a tribute to the tenacity of this family, but it is their ability to assess and fully exploit the grape's potential that makes the wines so exceptional. In short the hard work begins in the vineyard and then the cellar.
