A single vineyard of 36 year old vines situated on a natural amphitheatre provide the fruit for the Cerretalto. A unique microclimate, low yield and 2 year ageing in French oak barrels combine to produce a wine with massive character and concentration displaying robust fruit and a superb, persistent finish. The Colombini family has had properties in Montalcino since 1352 and has owned the Fattoria dei Barbi since 1790. The vineyards cover an area of 100 hectares, approximately 35% of the whole estate. The exposure is east, south-east and the soil type is composed prevalently of Galestro with small components of mud and clay, only a minor part of it has a relevant presence of eocenic sands. This red wine has been produced since 1892 and has won many awards. It is made with 100% Sangiovese grapes from Fattoria dei Barbi's best vineyards in Montalcino. The wine is aged for three years in oak barrels followed by a further 12 months in the bottle. The 1995 vintage is a deep red colour wine with a bright nose full of flowery notes. Good Tannic structure and acidity are evident as is the fruit that provides good balance culminating in a great finish.

The 1998 vintage is a brilliant and intense ruby red coloured wine with an ample and persistent bouquet of plum and red berry tones. The taste is full and pleasant with velvety tannis and a long finish. (6 x 75 cl)

This Riserva of Brunello is made only in the best vintages from the oldest vineyards in Montalcino. The ageing in barrel and in bottle is longer, 36 months, then the one for the normal Brunello, thus the wine has a deeper concentration and a wider complexity of aromas. (6 x 75 cl)
