San Valentino is a small winery and was purchased by its current owner, Robert Mascarin in 1990, with its first commercial vintage in 1997. In 2000 Fabrizio Moltard was hired as a wine consultant and the results are evident and this wine had been awarded the prestigious Tre Bicchieri or Three Glass award in the 2004 Gambera Rosso, the Italian wine bible. Hugely intense nose with big, ripe fruits and chocolaty oak with massive, opulent, black cherry fruit, toasty oak flavours. In the mouth, the massive structure with its complicated tannic structure is complimented by the dominating fruit. With a fantastic palate and great persistence this is a wine to be enjoyed. A 100% Fiano wine that undergoes fermentation in stainless steel vats with temperature control, maturation in steel tanks for 6-8 months, followed by Fining in the bottle for a further 6 months. A Straw yellow coloured wine with a nose of fresh, elegant, fruit, nuts and white flowers. Rich, quite soft, fresh, medium/full-bodied wine with a tasty, very long gustative persistence. (12 x 75 cl)
A single vineyard of 36 year old vines situated on a natural amphitheatre provide the fruit for the Cerretalto. A unique microclimate, low yield and 2 year ageing in French oak barrels combine to produce a wine with massive character and concentration displaying robust fruit and a superb, persistent finish. Manfredi purchased the estate in 1958 and worked on it throughout his life until he died in 1982 when his son Florio took over. Adopting many biodynamic methods and hand picking the fruit, great care is taken from the vineyard to the winery. After spending 36-40 months in Slovonian oak this deep dark Sangiovese wine is displaying wicked wild cherry fruit along with notes of herbs, leather, liquorice, pepper and spice as well as nascent prune, tar and tobacco aromas. soft, sweet fruit excellent balance and length on the finish characterise this well made wine.
