Cantina Produttori Valle Isarco Kerner Alto-Adige
As the youngest co-operative winery in the South Tyrol, set in an area where wine-growing has had a long tradition, the Cantina Produttori Valle Isarco winery has become synonymous with premium white wines. However, the actual upswing of wine-growing in Eisacktal occurred with the founding of the Eisacktal Kellerei Klausen EKK in 1961. There are ideal conditions for white grape types in the Valle Isarco where the climate and topography bequeaths the wines their unique and distinctive character, while the inclination and height of slopes helps. Some of the vines grow at 800-900 metres altitude, here the white grapes flourish in particular because of the nutrient-rich soil, the number of sunny days and even distribution of rainfall. The flagship wine this wine from the Kerner grape is a hybrid, a disease-resistant cross between Riesling and the red grape Trollinger . This example is simply extraordinary with aromas of green apples, melons and cream, before a soft curtain of delicious acidity opens into a full-bodied white wine full of peaches and apples and citrus fruits; the tell-tale distinctions of Riesling are backed by the strong mineral and nutty textures of cool-climate Italian whites. Gewurztraminer originates supposedly from the village of Tramin in the South Tirol. The grape prefers hilly terrain in cooler sites which have to be sunny and well-ventilated. The wine has a lovely bouquet of dried fruits, nutmeg and sweet spice and is rich and viscous. (6 x 75 cl)

The Veltliner grape variety is one of South Tyrol's rarities and is believed to have originated in Austria. In South Tyrol it is almost exclusively cultivated in the Eisacktal valley and this wine is a blend of 75% Gruner Veltliner and 25% Fruhroter Veltliner. Fruity and pleasantly spicy white wine it is greenish to light yellow in colour. The nose is delicate with a pleasant floral note while it is both dry, spicy, fruity and crisp through to the finish.
