Established for the last two hundred and fifty years in Bergheim on the slopes in Alsace this wine is a subtle blend of Muscat, Pinot Blanc & Sylvaner. The grapes undergo strict and meticulous selection for different grape qualities including, sugar content and origin , before unbroken pressing occurs. Once complete the wine is matured in bottles, unlabelled, in the cellars, which are temperature-controlled or air-conditioned, on average 2 to 3 years after harvesting. In the heart of the Ribeauville fault mosaic, split into layers of limestone and marl from the lower and mid-Jurassic periods, the Altenberg is composed of very stony, reddish, somewhat shallow soil of marl, sand and lime, commonly referred to as clayey-limestone. Classic aromas of spice and exotic fruit are enhanced by overmaturation and botrytis . Its length in the mouth and the intensity of the matter beautifully combine with the accompanying residual sugar provide the wine with great structure, full-bodied, warm and generous characteristics.
