Another winner from Pugia in Southern Italy,a traditional blend of Negro Amaro and Malvasia Nero, full bodied, rustic and very Italian. Carlo Campagnola founded the winery in 1886. He received his first official recognition in 1907 with a gold medal for the best 'reccioto wine'. Entirely owned by Campagnola family today the Red wines are refined in the original marble subterranean cellars in barrels made of Slavonia oak.

Winemaker's note: it has a deep ruby colour with flecks of strawberry-fuchsia when it's young. On the palate it has scents of wild blackberry and raspberry together with hints of violets, chocolate, tobacco and spices. Primitivo has a great structure and softness. Aging: about a third of the wine is aged in two year old, small French barrique for four months, the remaining in stainless steel tanks. Then for three months in the bottle. The wine is then slightly filtered and separated from the residual yeasts and sediments, before bottling. About Primitivo: Primitivo and Zinfandel have the same DNA, therefore the European Community allows the producers to label the wine with either name on the labels. It's unknown how the varietal arrived to Apulia, some think it came from Croatia, others think from Portugal or France. The best conditions to grow Primitivo are in the Salento peninsula . The wind that blows in the Peninsula keeps the vines healthy and prevents the formation of mould. The high alcohol content, the intense fruity flavours make this varietal very appealing. Before becoming a well known varietal on its own, it was blended with other wines to give them weight and structure. (6 x 75 cl)

A highly regarded 950-acre estate in the Salentino plain of southern Italy's Puglia region, Candido features 462 acres of vineyard. It is owned and managed by Alessandro and Giacomo Candido, sons of the founder and consulting Enologist Severino Garofano who plays an instrumental role at the property. Affectionately known as the Prince of Southern Italian Winemaking, Garofano is Italy's top authority on the grape varieties of Italy's south and a champion of southern Italian winemaking. A blend of Chardonnay 60% and Sauvignon Blanc 40%, whole grapes are softly and carefully pressed, after which the must is fermented and aged in new oak for eight months. This wine is a Straw yellow colour shot with tinges of green. Very rich and complex on the nose featuring hints of vanilla and exotic fruits. A very rich and elegant wine with well integrated new oak, surprisingly fresh and fruity. (6 x 75 cl)
