Description:
The Galatrona from Fattoria Petrolo , made solely from Merlot, is deep ruby red in colour, with perfumes of ripe plums, damsons and cherries on the nose that give way to a soft, ripe fruit on the palate and a long, concentrated finish. Galatrona is one of Italy’s most sought after red wines, so the wine usually sells out quickly. This property has long been one of Liberty Wines’ favourite producers of Chianti from Arezzo, and it has become one of the most talked about estates in recent years. The Petrolo estate has 31 hectares of vineyards, situated between 250-400 metres above sea level. Luca Sanjust runs the estate, having taken over from his mother, Lucia Bazzocchi. The region is known as the Colli Aretini (Aretini hills) which encircle the Monti Chianti, historically known and declared in 1716 by the Archduke of Tuscany as a particularly precious wine and olive-producing region. The Petrolo Winery is part of the medieval fiefdom of "Galatrona" and its tower, built atop roman ruins, still exists. In fact, this is where the name for our Torrione wine comes from. The Winery was acquired by the Bazzocchi family in the 40s and since the middle of the 80s the proprietors have pursued a wine production based exclusively on the highest quality research.
