The Rivetti family story begins in the 1890s, when Giovanni Rivetti, grandfather of the three Rivetti brothers, Carlo, Bruno and Giorgio, left Piedmont for Argentina. Like many Italians of that time, he dreamed of returning rich and a powerful man, perhaps even one day able to make a great wine in his homeland. He never did, though his son, Giuseppe did. Pin married Lidia, bought vineyards and began to make wine. In 1977 the family took up residence at La Spinetta in Castagnole Lanze and still run the estate today. Made from 95% Sangiovese and 5% Colorino this wine is aged entirely in medium toasted French oak for 9 months then transfered to stainless steal vats for 2 months before bottling. Finally, it is aged in bottles for another 2 months and released 13 months after harvest. This is an intense ruby red coloured wine with scents of ripe berries, vanilla and coffee. Full bodied with sweet tannins, impeccably balanced fruit, wood and acidity culminates in a fine finish. (12 x 75 cl)
Bodegas Enrique Mendoza make wines from the region of Alicante. Extreme conditions in the vineyard are evident as you move away from the Mediterranean coast, the result is concentrated fruit flavours and small yeilds. Made from Muscat grapes the sweetness and acidity shine through in the well made honey charactered dessert wine. (6 x 75 cl)
Podere Brancaia has been owned by the Swiss couple Brigitte and Bruno Widmer since 1981. It is located in the heart of the Chianti Classico area and in recent years Brancaia has won many international awards. Brancaia in Maremma is located southeast of Grosseto, about 7 miles from the sea in the municipality of Morellino di Scansano. The estate is still in an early stage. It is striving for the highest quality, in cooperation with Dr. Carlo Ferrini, the consultant wine-maker. A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30%Sangiovese and 10% Petit Verdot, the grapes are harvested in late August and through September. Aged half in new nad half in used barriques between 16-18 months plus 4 months in the bottle. An intense and complex red wine, produced in a modern style and at most typical of its terroir.
