Description: Acquired and managed by the Kerschbaumer family since 1940, the Kofererhof estate has existed in southern Tyrol, a region that is as Austrian in spirit as it is Italian, for over 850 years. In 1995, the winery started to bottle its own wines after having sold its fruit to local wineries for years.

Kofererhof's tiny 5 hectares of vines are located at the base of the Dolomite mountains between 700 and 800 metres above sea level. At this high altitude, the variation in temperatures from day to night is ideal, and the carefully tended, high-density vineyards yield intensely fragrant, concentrated and well-balanced wines. All grapes are harvested by hand, and attention to detail is paramount in this limited production winery. The quality of these wines raises the bar for all whites from Alto-Adige.

The Kerner smells of tangerine and lychee and tastes of peach, apricots and honey with plenty of complex nuances, has a medium to full-bodied texture and refreshing acidity in the finish. It's a rare white wine that manages to achieve plenty of flavour, good texture and complexity without the aid of oak.

Cantina Produttori Valle Isarco Kerner Alto-Adige
As the youngest co-operative winery in the South Tyrol, set in an area where wine-growing has had a long tradition, the Cantina Produttori Valle Isarco winery has become synonymous with premium white wines. However, the actual upswing of wine-growing in Eisacktal occurred with the founding of the Eisacktal Kellerei Klausen EKK in 1961. There are ideal conditions for white grape types in the Valle Isarco where the climate and topography bequeaths the wines their unique and distinctive character, while the inclination and height of slopes helps. Some of the vines grow at 800-900 metres altitude, here the white grapes flourish in particular because of the nutrient-rich soil, the number of sunny days and even distribution of rainfall. The flagship wine this wine from the Kerner grape is a hybrid, a disease-resistant cross between Riesling and the red grape Trollinger . This example is simply extraordinary with aromas of green apples, melons and cream, before a soft curtain of delicious acidity opens into a full-bodied white wine full of peaches and apples and citrus fruits; the tell-tale distinctions of Riesling are backed by the strong mineral and nutty textures of cool-climate Italian whites.
