One consists of the traditional farmer who dry-farms head-trained, spur-pruned vines. Balance is attained by virtue of the vines' old age as well as early canopy management and fruit thinning when needed. The other employs more modern methods, including bilateral cordon, spur-pruned on-wire trellising, drip irrigation, and carefully manicured canopies.
