Some 20 miles north east of Montpellier in the hills above the village of Saint Drezery stands the fine 18th century Chateau Puech-Haut. In among olive groves and truffle oaks is a speciofic terroir (6 x 75 cl)
This red is 60% Syrah, 35% Grenache and 5% Mourvedre from red argilo-calcaire soils; the grapes are destemmed and, after a three week cuvaison, the wine spends 15 months in vat. A well-known estate taken over by Jean-Benoit Cavalier in 1984 which seems to be on the right tracks again after a few years in the doldrums. The vineyards are situated in the communes of Vacquieres and Corconne north east of the Pic Saint Loup. (12 x 75 cl)
The Classique Blanc is showing buttered apricots and limes with a whiff of fennel and aniseed, a blend of Roussanne , Rolle and Marsanne .
