Description:
This small property on the south-facing slopes of Canon-Fronsac is run by Michel Ponty. Traditional vineyard practices reduce the need for herbicies, a green harvest in the summer ensures the wine has more concentration and grapes, all Merlot, are hand-harvested. A wine with great finesse, flavours of blackberries dominate with soft, supple tannins and a hint of wood spice..
Using the classic bordeaux blend including Merlot and a little Cabernet Sauvignon has produced complex wines that are both smooth and supple through to the enjoyably long finish. Since the beginning of 1999, Chateau du Gaby has also begun to reclaim its reputation of old. Under new ownership and management, the property has benefited from substantial investment and redevelopment at all levels. Their mission is to make Chateau du Gaby, one of the Grands Crus of the 'Right Bank'. The vineyard is being groomed to produce the highest quality of grape. Vines are cultivated without the use of weed-killers and only organic fertilisers are utilised. A policy of 'Controlled Treatment' has been adopted to deal with disease and pests. (12 x 75 cl)
