The vineyard is planted on a gravelly rise with a layer of large pebbles four to six metres deep. The clay marl subsoil retains water, releasing it to the vine roots during drought years. Monsieur Dumoulin created the wine estate in 1815 and it quickly created a good name for its high quality wines with extraordinary ageing potential.
