Specogna Friulano Colli Orientali del Friuli
Made from fruit grown in 50-70 year old vines on the hill of Rocca Bernarda, long known as one of Friuli's best sites for Tocai. Low yields and old vines ensure a wine with greater intensity and more remarkable varietal character than can be achieved in less favoured sites. (12 x 75 cl)
Specogna Pignolo Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC
100% Pignolo, it is an intense, deep ruby red coloured wine with mauve highlights. After spending between 18 and 24 months in wooden barrels it has developed a nose of real power as notes of plum, violet, mulberry, cocoa, vanilla and spice develop and establish themselves on the palate. Good fruit structure, tannin and balanced acidity are evident through to the long finish. (6 x 75 cl)
Specogna RAMATO Pinot Grigio Colli Orientali del Friuli
This Pinot Grigio is one of the few remaining that is 'coppery' in colour and the 2006 Pinot Grigio Ramato is no exception. It has a wonderful bouquet reminiscent of acacia flowers, grapefruit and fresh apricots. The palate is rich and full, elegant and crisp, with a balanced acidity and a rich, lingering finish. The Specogna family now has 15 hectares of vineyard on the hill of Rocca Bernarda in the heart of the Colli Orientali DOC zone in Friuli-Venezia-Giulia. The quality of the fruit grown by Graziano Specogna and his family is impeccable. These are highly individual wines with a great richness of flavour. (12 x 75 cl)
Specogna Verduzzo Friulano Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC
Made from the local Verduzzo Friulano grape it is a golden yellow colour. Intense, fruity aromas give way to a sweetish palate that is slightly tannic, it is both robust, full-bodied with a high alcohol level. (12 x 75 cl)
Collavini TURIAN Ribolla Gialla DOC Colli Orientali del Friuli
In 1896 Eugenio Collavini, the founder, first supplied to the best Udinese's families his wines without ever imagining that a century later they would reach the world over. The Ribolla grape is a variety that's definitely a native of Friuli, in whose dialect it's known as Ribuele. It's grown almost exclusively on the hill faces running from Cividale through the Collio to Gorizia. Additionally, there are mentions of the cultivation of this variety going back to 1300. This is a straw coloured wine with greenish reflections, while it is distinctive, dry, lemony, with medium strength. The pleasant, soft nose complements the soft, floreal aromas from forest plants such as acacia, oak and birch, and clear lemony notes. Soft, delicate, dry flavour with a thin hint of acid this is a wine to savour. (6 x 75 cl)
Livio Felluga SOSSO Riserva Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC
Very intense, almost impenetrable ruby red coloured wine. The nose is broad, elegant, very complex, with sweet notes of morello cherry, ripe plum and wild berries, mingling with intense notes of spice. Soft, mouth filling and well-structured characterise the palate while the sweet, close-knit tannins and acidity blend in perfect harmony with the wine's richness and concentration. Long, lingering, fruity finish, with wild berry flavours that merge with intense, complex notes of spice are the highlight of this wine. Created in 1989, this wine is named after the Sosso stream, which runs at the foot of the hill where the grapes grow. Made with carefully selected and oldest vines of Merlot and Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso grapes, together with a small percentage of Pignolo, from Rosazzo. Sosso is the result of skilful vinification and barrique maturation that lasts for 18 months. A supremely complex and well-structured wine, it stands out for its elegant, ripe, sweet, fruity tannins. Le Due Terre Pinot Nero Colli Orientali del Friuli
Silvana Forte and Flavio Basilicata established the estate in 1984 with the idea of producing wines with both tradition and sense of terroir. They are a team that is committed to wines that flout traditional canons. Flavio started as a consultant winemaker in the late seventies, working mainly in the Colli Orientali del Friuli appellation and having a lot of experiences with both international and local grapes. Since the beginning, their main focus was to grow Refosco, Schioppettino and Tocai, classic varietals from the area and particularly well performing in the village of Prepotto where the estate is located. Le due terre means two soils: the two soils in question are marl and clay plots divided by the road in Prepotto. Flavio is a sort of avant-garde traditionalist. He wants to keep alive the varietals and the ancient methods but he's perfectly aware of the necessity of refinement and complexity required by today's wine drinkers. For him originality and terroir are a real challenge and his winemaking approach is simply, 'less is better'. That's why he prefers not to rack the wines if unnecessary, preferring the action of the lees and oxygen to any intrusive manipulation. The Pinot Nero is truly Burgundian in style, with lovely scents of red fruit, rose petals and potpourri spice. Both velvety and steely it is balanced, clean and long (12 x 75 cl)
