Description: Edmeades is pure Mendocino. It is the authentic taste of one of California’s final viticultural frontiers - the Anderson Valley. The approach is traditional and natural; the methods are decidedly low tech and they believe in native yeast fermentations in small, open-top bins, hand punchdowns, minimal manipulation, and no fining or filtration at bottling. The simplicity of their methods allows the soils and climates of each site to be clearly heard in their wines.

After spending Seven months in French (70%) and American (30%) oak barrels at the winery Van Williamson the Winemaker considered:

'Focused aromas of cherries, spice, roasted coffee, and oak vanillin lead the way to more funky aromas of earth and forest floor. Small amounts of Pinot Noir and Grenache add a perfumed fruit character to the aromas. Darker fruit flavours show up on the palate followed by a long, lingering, berry finish. Juicy, jammy, and lively on the palate to begin — but upon airing, the wine displays more tart raspberry flavours. I hope you have as much fun deciphering the different aromatics as I do. Wow, high-toned fruit!'

The Story of Edmeades:

The first row of vines were barely in the ground when the neighbours began lining up to lean on their shovels and scoff.

Grapes in Anderson Valley? Nobody could make it work, they insisted. The naysayers grew so vocal that Dr. Donald Edmeades dragged some old redwood planks out from behind the barn, found some red paint, and christened his vineyard with a sign out on Highway 128: 'Edmeades' Folly.'

'When we first planted up there, people said we were nuts,' said Deron Edmeades, son of the Pasadena cardiologist who founded the winery and vineyards. Nearly four decades later, nobody is laughing at Anderson Valley wines.

When the owners sold Edmeades in 1988 to Jess Jackson of Jackson Wine Estate he retooled the winery and replanted vineyards. He hired Greenwood Ridge Winemaker Van Williamson in 1994 to create the best wine ever under the Edmeades name. Since that year, Edmeades has set the wine world ablaze, averaging 10 Gold Medals a year at major competitions from 1994 through 2004. During the same period, Edmeades claimed 57 critical ratings of 90 points or better.

Azienda Agricola Cos CERASUOLO DI VITTORIA DOC Sicily

Chateau Cos d'Estournel LES PAGODES de COS Saint Estephe
Second wine of Chateau Cos d'Estournel (12 x 75 cl)
Chateau Cos d'Estournel 2eme Cru Classe Saint Estephe
In 1811, Louis Gaspard d'Estournel set out to produce wine of the very best quality in the hamlet of Cos. He was a dealer in Arab horses, which were shipped to and from the Far East, accompanied, eventually, by some bottles of the Estournel wine. Some of the consignment came back and it was noticed that the bottles had developed exceedingly well. D'Estournel decided all of his wine would make a sea journey and to emphasise his connections with the Far East he built a chateau in the style of an Oriental temple, complete with Pagoda towers. The success of these wines is due to the expert management of Bruno Prats who has invested on a large scale and has made many fundamental improvements. The vigorous taste holds nuances of ripe fruit, plus chocolate, coffee and spices. Gravel ridges, mixed with sand, clay and a limestone subsoil. 50-100% of virgin barriques new oak. "Massive in the mouth and one of the most structured and concentrated young Cos d'Estournels I have ever tasted...should last for 30-35 years. It is fabulous Cos, but patience is required. Anticipated maturity, 2006-2030." Parker, 93+. (12 x 75 cl)
