Meaning
Kahurangi is the Maori word meaning, - treasured possession - precious jewel, pale greenstone and blue sky. Kahurangi National Park is New Zealand's newest and second largest national park some 452,000 hectares, situated in the nor' west corner of the South Island and best known for its Heaphy Track.
Winemakers Note: The lovely fresh aromatic varietal flavours were encouraged in the vineyard by reducing vigour in the vines and extensive leaf plucking. The summer and autumn were very warm and dry so the fruit was extremely ripe, intense in flavour and very varietal. After pressing, the wine was cold fermented in stainless steel tanks to retain these aromatic characters. Tasting Note: The colour is bright and lively. The nose is delicious (12 x 75 cl)
Ambitious young winemaker Jane Cooper started up this small, specialist wine venture on the Waimea Plains in the South Island's Nelson Region. The nose of this wine has the typical vibrancy of the Nelson region. Gooseberry and strong citrus/lime characters predominate with some herbal and passionfruit aromas. A slight mineral edge is also apparent. The palate has strong lime and gooseberry flavours, with some ripe tropical fruit characters which give a juiciness to the wine. The fruit flavours are well balanced by a fresh, clean finish (6 x 75 cl)
A fabulous Sauvignon Blanc that explodes from the glass with exquisitely ripe gooseberries. Expansive and boldly-flavored, this medium-bodied, silky-textured effort is resplendent in layers of pink grapefruit, gooseberries, and spices. It has terrific mouth-feel and a long fruit-filled finish. (6 x 75 cl)
Organic. Intense, classic Sauvignon from the underrated Nelson region on the South Island. Ripe gooseberry fruit combines with tingly acidity, to deliver a wonderfully fresh and vibrant wine in true New Zealand style. "One of the most vividly-flavoured wines I have encountered for a long time. It is startlingly. It is one of those lovely Sauvignon Blancs that come from New Zealand and it smells of cut grass, so vivid, it almost moves into the sort of spilled petrol arena. gloriously fruity. It is a glass and a half. Lovely stuff." Jilly Goolden, Food and Drink, BBC2. (12 x 75 cl)
